After the Last Supper, Jesus prays. He just said he and his apostles again are sanctified in truth.

The issue is not if we will trust but if we do now.

What Christ is asking for here is a "separation" of his people from the world of men. The concept of "holiness" is tied to separating the things of God from what is common.
In the previous verses, Christ has said that the apostle's have been separated from the misleading world of men by truth or reality of God's word.
In this verse, he seems to be extending that concept to include those who hear that word passed on by the apostles, but actually, he could be saying more: that holiness should be to all those who themselves testify for Christ.
